I don’t know if it’s true but it’s said that laughing extends your life expectancy. If that turns out to be true the people in our community are going to live forever. We laugh. A lot. We can’t spend anytime together without a lot of laughter.
The most amazing thing about our laughter is that it’s generally not about petty jokes or ribbing (although we do enjoy that some as well – especially puns). Our laughter comes from the joy we have being around one another. Young Life is the center piece of our community in many ways. In that sense, we are joyful because we have hope in Christ and are in the trenches doing ministry together. When you see the hard times in someone’s life it makes it easier to laugh in the happy times.
Bill Cosby once said, “Through humor, you can soften some of the worst blows that life delivers. And once you find laughter, no matter how painful your situation might be, you can survive it.”
Our community is doing more than surviving, it’s thriving with a soundtrack of laughs.
- Where is the shared joy in your community?
- How does that filter into and change every aspect of your community?
Day 9 of 31: Why do I love my community? We laugh. A lot.
